Moving To a New School

Switching schools can be very difficult to children and teens. I've switched schools several times in my life because I moved houses a lot, you can help your kid(s) get used to the new school quicker by doing this:
  1. Before switching schools make sure you or your kid(s) know someone that currently studies at that school (that can help you or your child have an automatic friend.)
  2. Tour the school before attending there
  3. Perhaps you can sign them up for a group or a sport. Groups/sports can really bring up someone's social skills and confidence.
  4. Look your best. I know this sounds rather catty, but it's true. We live in a society where people judge you simply by your looks. But you can achieve looking nice by taking showers, getting a cute haircut and wearing decent clothes
  5.  Make sure you or your kid(s) work hard at their new schools and participate!
  6. Act your nicest around these new students.
Make sure you assure your kid(s) that they'll be completely fine at their new school. Please be aware if you or your child is showing signs of stress/depression. Here are some signs:

  • Moodiness
  • Irritability or short temper
  • Agitation, inability to relax
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Sense of loneliness and isolation
  • Depression or general unhappiness
Talk to your child about their new school everyday to make sure things are going okay, and if you don't like the new school you can always home school your child until the school year is over. Take care and best wishes to you and your family.
